Frequently Asked Questions

  • So what is challah?

A Jewish, sweet egg-based yeast bread (most commonly compared to brioche breads).

Challah” means ‘portion’ in Hebrew, signifying a portion of dough was removed prior to baking as a gift to the Lord. Traditionally it was served on Shabbat and holidays. HOWEVER, this bread has become a daily staple in modern life of all carb-lovers, Jewish or not!

Modern bakers innovate it further by stuffing the braids/strands or mixing enticing ingredients into the base dough (what I do at Challah Creations!)

  • What kind of challah do you make?

I make both sweet and savory challahs, from flavored doughs to stuffed varieties. The menu is rotated weekly with new as well as tried-and-true flavors every Monday.

  • How soon will my order be ready?

Local orders can be made with 1-2 day advance notice, with local pickup days on Fridays and Sundays, and out-of-town orders of challah are shipped out weekly every Monday.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept Venmo or Paypal only at this time, and your order is not confirmed until payment is received.

  • I don’t live in New Orleans! Can you ship challah to me?

Provided you are located within the continental United States, we sure can (and do!).

**I estimate total shipping costs based on final weight of the package as well as the zipcode it is being sent to, so be sure to let me know if you’d like me to estimate shipping before you place an order.**

  • How long does challah remain fresh for?

Typically, it is best to eat or freeze challah within its peak freshness of 5-7 days.

  • Does challah freeze well?

YES! Challah bread can last up to 3 months in the freezer, as long as it is sealed tightly within a ziplock bag, saran wrap or another freezer-appropriate storage container.

  • What is a good way to reheat my challah bread?

The best way to heat and serve challah is placing it in an oven set at 300 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for ~7-10 minutes, so that it becomes warm and reheats the slight outer crust. However, you can also heat up individual slices in a microwave for 10-30 seconds, with similarly splendid results.

  • Is your challah certified kosher?

Not all of them at this time, however the plain challot do not contain any milk or meat. The other flavors may vary as to meeting kosher requirements, so don’t hesitate to ask!

  • Do you take requests for new flavors and varieties?

Absolutely! I try my best to incorporate and/or fulfill flavor requests, but cannot guarantee they will appear on our menu.

  • Do you take custom orders for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthdays, etc?

Yes, and this is honestly one of my favorite types of requests/orders, because I love helping bring your ideas to life to ensure challah can be enjoyed in whatever way you choose (and at whatever sizes too!).
